Elm Restaurant Restaurant Review: Awash in white, Elm has an airy and serene atmosphere. The seasonal, eclectic American menus with Asian influences --- à la carte and a chef’s tasting --- are characterized by meticulous preparation. Appetizers like the chestnut soup with lady apple, Cognac crema and sage brioche highlight the flavors of the season, while the “farm eggs” of tamagi dashi with duck egg, scallion porridge, matsutake and pignoli lends a classic Chinese dish Japanese accents. Pastas, perhaps escargots tortelloni and tagliatelle neri with Jonah crab, sea urchin and Calabrian chili, demonstrate creative and harmonious interactions between usually disparate ingredients. Desserts recall the warm and comforting flavors of a country kitchen with the likes of salty chocolate s'mores made with vanilla fluff, graham cracker crumbs and chocolate ice cream. Even the cocktail menu is tailored to the seasons.
