Escape from New York Pizza Restaurant Review: Escape from New York Pizza offers thin-crust pies, with red sauce, ample mozzarella and straightforward toppings; olives, pineapple or Canadian bacon is about as exotic as it gets. The place doesn’t do delivery, credit cards or Ranch dressing, and pity the poor soul who asks for “gluten-free crust.” Be assured, there’s nothing seasonal or sustainable here; the closest it gets to “green” is the pepper slices on top of the veggie pie. This is a place where most diners rightly opt for a simple cheese or pepperoni pizza --- and know to turn off their cell phone while ordering or be loudly pushed to the back of the line. The Big Apple kitsch is mostly entertaining, and the crew will give you what you ask for --- and not a whole lot more. The counter eating area is crowded, but it's all part of the experience. |
