| As the name of the restaurant suggests, this upscale eatery is open only in the evenings. That being the case, it has become a mecca for after-hours libations and serious eats. The chef has developed an eclectic style that’s part Mediterranean, part contemporary American, and part Italian. The result? Such appetizers as the grilled asparagus accompanied by a hard-boiled egg encrusted with crunchy mushrooms bits---interesting, if a bit odd. Other choices include a mixed green salad, bison tartare with cranberry mustard, and squid that is stuffed then grilled. Entrées seem a bit more mainstream, with grilled wild salmon, beef tenderloin with butter-poached asparagus, and roasted lamb loin with lentils. Not mainstream at all is the wildly inventive shredded, braised baby goat served atop achiote-seasoned pappardelle, all afloat in a coconut milk-based curry. Desserts seem less offbeat, with locally made gelato and a darkly sweet brown butter cake keeping company with a goat cheese Bavarian and a chocolate terrine. All in all, an unusual meal for the money. |
