THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Fat Cat Bar & Bistro Restaurant Review:
Fat Cat Bar & Bistro is comfortably situated on a hip street in Toronto. Chef-owner Mathew Sutherland is fearless in his use of spices, curries and salsa to kick simple dishes up a notch. Translucent “dry-packed” sea scallops are sesame crusted and benefit from their Thai green curry sauce. Meanwhile, seared foie gras comes with peppered Ontario strawberry preserve, and almond-crusted black grouper is served with extra-spicy salsa alongside a sweet corn pudding to tame the flames. Also on hand are oysters, roasted olives, mushroom bruschetta, crab cakes and antipasto. Consider foregoing the prix-fixe option for the chef’s seven-course, seasonal tasting menu. As for wines, you can BYO for $25, enjoy a flight of themed wines, or choose from the restaurant's eclectic list. There’s also a two-ounce-cocktail list, a boon when there's live music on Thursdays.
