Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar Restaurant Review: This upscale chain of fine steakhouses has two outposts in San Diego. Although the menu is the same throughout the country, we prefer the atmosphere and lively spirit of the downtown location. Clientele is heavily tipped to the business crowd, but America's love affair with protein-based dinners has given Fleming's a more widespread and loyal local following as well. We appreciate such old-school appetizers and accompaniments as iceberg wedges with thick blue cheese dressing, deep-fried calamari with lemony dipping sauce, and spinach sautéed in brown butter. Steaks dominate the menu --- take your pick from filets, rib-eyes and New York strips --- but pork, chicken and a smattering of seafood options lend some versatility. Chef Didi Lopez adds her innovative spin to the traditional steakhouse fare. Choose from among more than 100 wines by the glass to complement a meal. Ask the sommelier for pairing advice, as there's much to discover on the extensive wine list.
