Sitting right at the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Commonwealth Avenue, Florentine’s Downtown Grill stands out as a rather cosmopolitan two-story restaurant. Proprietors Joe and Robin Florentine make sure to provide guests with a connection to the past with their European décor: dark wood floors, original brick walls, colorful tapestries and elegant rugs. Regulars hang out at the 55-foot wood bar to enjoy wine or one of the house special martinis. The menu ranges from generously portioned Italian food to eclectic American fare, including Kansas City-style ribs, cedar plank-baked Atlantic salmon, entrée salads and chicken tenders for the kids. There’s also a sizable list of sandwich and burger options --- they do a burger with a glazed donut bun here --- and a compact dessert menu featuring potentially unexpected treats like bananas Foster.
