Flo's Clam Shack Restaurant Review: Located just over the town line in Middletown, Flo's features a busy takeout window, patio and upstairs dining (with a few choice deck seats with beach views), and a friendly nautical pub and raw bar. At $15 or more, Flo's famous fried clams or lobster rolls can cost you as much as an entrée at a tonier restaurant, but the fish is fresh, the preparations are classic New England, and the meals go down easy with a pitcher of Bud on draft. Fish ‘n’ chips --- fried but not too greasy --- are a relative bargain, and there are hot dogs and burgers if the kids don't like seafood. Flo's even appeals to the Newport swells with the special menu option of a bottle of Moët and two gourmet hot dogs for $50, though for our money you're better served using some bubbly or beer to wash down crab legs, Chesapeake oysters, or native quahogs stuffed with spicy local chourico. |
