Frank's Americana Revival Restaurant Review

: Frank's Americana Revival (formerly Frank’s Chop House) is bringing back to the River Oaks/Highland Village area the sense of community and classic American dining once provided by The Stables, a one-time favorite watering hole. Opened originally by Frank Crapitto and currently owned by Mike Shine, this cool, sophisticated, dark-wood restaurant makes for a cozy lunch spot; we suggest the lump crab cake salad or the chopped sirloin burger that’s big enough for two. At dinnertime, we enjoy the chop house classics, most notably the grilled certified Angus steaks, buttermilk-fried chicken with mashed potatoes, and the Gulf Coast seafood entrées like the shrimp and white cheddar grits. There are pork and pasta dishes available, too, and a huge chicken-fried steak with cracked-peppercorn gravy. Vegetables are locally sourced by chef Albert Estrada. For dessert, try the apple crisp or the white chocolate bread pudding. Frank’s is popular for happy hour. Cocktails and a lovely wine list --- wines are half-price on Sunday nights --- are a boon.
