Freewheel Brewing Co. at the upgraded Marsh Manor property brings true English cask-conditioned ales and California-inspired pub food to the Peninsula. Ale ingredients are sourced directly from the U.K. and brewed on site. Six choices, from lightweight "bitters" to a mid-hearty stout, are based on recipes developed in partnership with regional U.K. brewers. The menu offers classic pub fare: piping hot fish ‘n’ chips, a nicely executed burger (or black bean-based veggie burger alternative), and seasonal takes on English pasties are all worth pairing with a pint or two. And since the beers run to the light end of the alcohol range (3.5-5.5 percent), you can actually have two without feeling it afterwards.
