Galaxy Diner Restaurant Review: This longstanding diner is fairly frill-proof, although some culinary-themed figures perched here and there supply a bit of amusement. Greek specialties (pastitsio, spanakopita, souvlaki, moussaka) along with Italian dishes (chicken Marsala, spaghetti and meatballs, eggplant Parmigiana) grace a huge menu that also has American standards. Southern dishes such as fried catfish and hush puppies give the offerings yet another twist. Corned beef hash with competently poached eggs make a fine breakfast, and the pancakes, pretty much flavorless, are filling and tender. Besides a classic Benedict, there’s Florentine, perching the softly poached eggs and a so-so hollandaise sauce on spinach and a split English muffin. The home fries are worthy. Desserts embrace everything from ice cream and carrot cake to baklava. There is a short if uninteresting wine list, but you'll find some beers, including fine local quaffs, and you can get a mimosa. Daily specials abound, and the Saturday dinner menu draws lots of locals. Galaxy Diner locks the doors about 20 minutes before its stated closing time, so don't come too late.
