Germano's Piattini Restaurant Review: Germano’s Trattoria was always a Little Italy standout, what with Germano Fabiani’s Tuscan specialties, attentive servers, romantic frescoed rooms and, especially, the upstairs Cabaret, which features both local up-and-comers and nationally known jazz, operatic, popular, chamber, world music and theatrical ensembles and soloists. But Germano and his team have been shaking things up lately; now known as Germano’s Piattini (“little plates”), the restaurant offers a new menu focused on creative small plates and a renovated bar. Menu stars include pizzette (grilled mini pizzas), salumi (cured meats), and such small plates as rosemary-grilled shrimp with chilled Tuscan bean salad, Kobe beef meatballs in San Marzano tomato sauce, squid-ink risotto with clams and mussels, and pan-seared branzino. (Customers addicted to the “bongo bongo” chocolate-drenched cream puffs needn’t worry --- they’re still here.) The full new menu is available in the Cabaret as well as the dining room and bar.
