Greek Islands Grill Restaurant Review

: This Silver Spring destination bears its Greek identity with great pride, featuring Greek folk music in the background and a striking blue-and-white color scheme (the Greek flag's colors), adding a Mediterranean spirit to a place that features first-rate Greek cooking. First up are hot and cold appetizers, and you can't go wrong with a plate of skordalia, or garlic sauce mixed with mashed potatoes, a cold dish that's a powerful incentive to follow up with a bottle of Greek wine. The menu turns up such Greek classics as lamb shish kebab, moussaka, spanakopita, pastitsio and dolmades avgolemono. Try the lamb gyro platter, served with a memorable Greek salad on the side. The restaurant's real triumph comes from its own dessert kitchen---nothing can compare to the custard-filled galaktoboureko served in a mammoth wedge.
