Memphis may be far from the ocean, but diners at the Half Shell can get a taste of surf here. Twinkling string lights and wooden paneling on the interior lend the eatery a casual vibe. Of course, there are oysters on the half-shell, as the name implies. But there are also voodoo-spiced steak and seafood, Southern-style fried catfish, Hawaiian coconut shrimp, Tex-Mex-style cheese dip, and Asian-inspired shrimp egg rolls. For those who’d prefer turf over surf, there’s always a New York strip steak or chicken Marsala. Weekdays bring blue plate lunch specials that may range from salmon cakes to French dip subs. Desserts include an Oreo pie with meringue and whipped cream and a brownie sundae à la mode. Typical mainstream wine selections are available at reasonable prices. Weekend brunch features all the usual breakfast dishes plus New Orleans favorites. The bar stays open every night until 3 a.m. for those who cannot get enough of the place.
