Hollywood Brown Derby Restaurant Review:

Hollywood's original Brown Derby at Hollywood and Vine, demolished decades ago, has been architecturally re-created at the Disney-MGM Studios, with teak and mahogany accents, reproductions of the original chandeliers and signature brass derby hat lamps. The walls are lined with copies of the original caricatures of famous movie stars. Two menu items from the original restaurant remain---the classic Cobb salad and the grapefruit cake. A little history lesson: the Cobb originally was created in 1937 by Derby owner Bob Cobb; he emptied out the fridge for Sid Graumann and came up with a chopped blend of lettuce, avocado, romaine, watercress, tomatoes, cold chicken breast, hard-boiled egg, chives, blue cheese, bacon and French dressing. The Disney Derby's version is finely minced---we've never ordered anything else to start a meal. Then it's on to braised short ribs, duck confit, crispy salmon and a beautiful pork chop. By far the fanciest restaurant in the theme park, Brown Derby takes a little time. So sit back, relax and listen to the pianist's Disney tunes. Order a glass of Champagne or one of the California wines. You'll feel as pampered as the movie stars in the 1930s.
