Named after the city's first volunteer fire department, Hook & Ladder is a good choice for an upscale meal in a hip setting. Décor is eclectic, with vintage curios alongside flat-screen TVs, but the menu meets the standards of today’s discerning tastes. Dishes highlight seasonal, locally-produced ingredients. Starters include a trio of house-made sausages and white bean and ahi bruschetta, while mains include Meyer lemon linguine with mussels, bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin with braised rainbow chard, and grilled lamb T-bone with green lentils. Desserts are crafted with equal care, such as the peanut butter and chocolate bread pudding and cherry almond semifreddo. Impressive artisan cocktails include the Hell in a Handbasket, with tequila, passionfruit syrup and habanero bitters.
