Close quarters don't allow for privacy at this small, high-volume restaurant with seating for about 60. That's the bad news. The good news is that the food is, more often than not, first-rate. Mindy Segal (formerly the pastry chef at mk restaurant) is the chef-owner, and she fashioned a tidy, ever-changing menu of interesting, exciting plates. Options might include Kobe flank steak with local pumpkin purée or a lamb sausage and Kasa flatbread with arugula-oregano oil and pickled beets. Desserts, of course, are a joy ride---especially when it comes to the bananas and butterscotch, a heavenly display of banana brioche bread pudding, banana sherbet, malted liquid butterscotch, cardamom cream and banana cake cannoli. There's a whole range of hot chocolate drinks and milkshakes as well as a decent wine list and good cheese selection. Service is stretched when the place is jamming. |
