This busy establishment blends ’cue and sports bar action. Go for the former, as there's much to like, including the pulled pork, slightly bite resistant Memphis-style dry-rub ribs, wings (although the rub might seem a bit salty to some), and tender, quite lean, sliced beef brisket. Mac 'n' cheese is made with lumache, or shell shaped, pasta, and Uncle Cooter's stew is a worthy take on Brunswick stew. We also like the savory beans and especially the vinegar-based coleslaw. Skip the maple habanero sauce, too sweet in our view, in favor of mustard-based hot sauce that’s not wicked searing and has well-integrated flavors. The best, perhaps, is the tomato-based barbecue sauce. Desserts are house-made, including the ice cream on the deep-fried chocolate chip cookies --- one portion is plenty for four. Non-’cue fare includes a slightly hot gazpacho topped with tortilla strips, avocado slices, cilantro and deep-fried onion strings. The quaff of choice is a good brew, such as Athens, Georgia-based Terrapin Rye. Other locations are in Colorado and Florida.
