Order an icy martini and settle into this warmly comfortable room, with its white linen and cherry wood-paneling, before turning to the menu. A classic jumbo prawn cocktail and Hy's must-have signature cheese toast set the stage for the main event: the triple-A Canadian beef that's prepared better here than at some of the finest Manhattan and Midwestern establishments specializing in the same tender subject. Steaks range in size from not-so-petite filet mignons and New York strips to we-couldn’t-possibly-finish-it bone-in rib steak. Rack of lamb and Muscovy duck confit are non-beef options, as are Alaskan king crab legs, jumbo Atlantic lobster tail, and baked sea bass, all generously portioned. Caesar salad prepared tableside is a crisp, garlic lover’s delight that doesn’t skimp on shaved Parmesan and croutons. Hy’s offers a variety of Pacific Northwest wines, but if you have the means, elevate your dining experience with a Napa Cabernet or pedigreed Bordeaux. For a sweet finale, consider the bananas Foster assembled tableside. Waitstaff is first-rate and informative.
