THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Illegal Food Restaurant Review:

Illegal Food boasts a large bar that nestles under an arch of white subway tiles, and hardwood floors and black-and-white hexagonal tiles are holdovers from the previous renovation. A semi-outdoor space with large open windows brings the cool breezes inside in warm weather. The focus is on the burger and everything is house-made, including the black pepper mayo and ketchup. Meat for these beauties is from North Carolina's Brasstown Beef, and it is ground fresh on-site. Ratio Bakeshop in Decatur supplies the buns. We like the F & H, a double-thick patty that comes with American cheese and bread-and-butter pickles. Forget two-handing this monster --- it's a knife-and-fork experience. Hand-cut fries are first-rate. Among vegetarian burgers is a mushroom-Swiss cheese medley. Good brews are on tap and in the bottle, and the wine list, while short, is intelligently drafted. For dessert, hope for buttermilk pie, a classic Southern treat that in this case isn't overloaded with sugar. For brunch, try local Gum Creek Farms sausage and gravy or have a Bloody Mary with your burger. At dinner on the weekends, chef Steven Lingenfelter stretches his reach to enfold Asian influences into offerings such as Korean fried chicken thighs, and there may be crab cakes, too.
