Ivar's Salmon House Restaurant Review: The acceptable but predictable food is by far eclipsed by the setting: a dramatic re-creation of a Coastal Indian longhouse. Add panoramic views of Lake Union and downtown Seattle to a 400-seat interior featuring wooden, hand-carved totem-poles and Native American-inspired art and you begin to understand the aura of Ivar's Salmon House. Begin with a few appetizers, such as the warm crab dip or herb-dusted fried calamari, or go for a hearty bowl of one of Ivar’s signature chowders: white, salmon or seafood. Salad lovers will enjoy the warm spinach salad tossed with bacon, dried sweetened cranberries, walnuts and goat cheese. Of the entrées, try something cooked on the alderwood plank grill, such as salmon, chicken or black cod, to honor another native cooking tradition. Look to the daily fresh-sheet for seasonal seafood specials. If you’re a connoisseur of fish ‘n’ chips, you won’t be disappointed by the beer-battered, wild Alaskan halibut version served here. There's even a kids’ menu parents will find quite magical. For picnic-style lakeside dining order from the outdoor Fish Bar.
