Ivar's Salmon House Restaurant Review: A dramatic re-creation of a Coastal Indian longhouse, Ivar's Salmon House combines panoramic views of Lake Union and downtown Seattle with a striking 400-seat interior featuring wooden, hand-carved totem-poles and Native American-inspired art. Unfortunately, the décor somewhat eclipses the food, which is acceptable but predictable. Begin with a few appetizers, such as the warm crab dip or herb-dusted fried calamari, or order a hearty bowl of one of Ivar’s signature chowders---white, salmon or seafood. Salad lovers will enjoy the warm spinach salad tossed with bacon, dried sweetened cranberries, walnuts and goat cheese. Of the entrées, order something cooked on the alderwood plank grill, such as salmon, chicken or black cod. Look to the daily fresh-sheet for seasonal seafood specials. If you’re a connoisseur of fish ‘n’ chips, you won’t be disappointed by the beer-battered, wild Alaskan halibut version served here. There's even a beloved kids’ menu parents will find quite magical. For picnic-style lakeside dining, order from the outdoor Fish Bar. It's fast, affordable and fun. |
