Dining room at THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED James, Philadelphia, PA

: Chef Jim Burke’s modern American cuisine and the restaurant’s contemporary ambience, including a glowing fireplace in winter, make this a welcome option in the Bella Vista neighborhood. Burke spent time at Vetri and Ristorante Frosio in Alme, Italy, before he became chef at Stephen Starr's Angelina. Splurge on the tasting menu, paired with wine, ranging from five to nine courses. The selections might include risotto alla Milanese with summer truffles; wild king salmon with potatoes rösti and caviar sauce; and roast of Jamison Farm lamb crowned with baby carrots, leeks and fennel jus. The spare dessert menu also reflects the seasons. A gingered rhubarb sugar triangle topped with honey cream tastes like summer itself. The Sunday supper---three courses for $40, with the menu changing weekly---is a good deal.

Pretention at its finest

To sum it up - a big fat pretentious rip off. As dining experiences go, this was a first for me, a restaurant where the servers actually boast about the tiny portion sizes. Serving atomic particle sized food portions is not a sign of fine quality. To the contrary, it is a sign of a chef who squeezes every penny out of your dollar. To top it all off, the food that did arrive was not cooked as ordered and, even after correction, was mediocre at best. Avoid this place at all costs, but if you do go, save some money for the walk home. You don't want to go home hungry.
