| Get in line to order at the counter, and request a cappuccino or serve yourself a cup of strong Stumptown Coffee while you wait for a table to open up. This egalitarian breakfast and lunch spot may not offer waiter service, but the food rates “gourmet.” French toast comes in many guises, none better than Calvados apple, with slivers of the tart fruit contrasting nicely with the pure maple syrup. You’ll also find proper Irish oatmeal, pancakes stacked high and eggs done every way from Benedict to Florentine. Try the smoked salmon bagel plate for a suitably luxurious start to the day. And for those with smaller appetites, look to the display cases full of fresh-baked pastries and other treats. Soups, salads and sandwiches comprise the lunch menu for later arrivals.
