 Tooling the back roads and 90 degree-curves of Alexander Valley, you’ll eventually bump into this cheerful old-fashioned country market, a landmark since the 1890s. Front of the house serves as a catch-all, retro-chic general store. Opposite the bric-a-brac, a café counter creates monthly specials that zing. Sit in for entrées like a chicken tamale pie with roasted chicken, green chilies, masa and jack cheese. Or, pack out like the cyclists and picnickers at this pitstop. Crunch half-sour pickles, near-impossible to find out West. And covet a new condiment---the mixed olive tapenade (fig and spicy versions optional) scooped onto baguettes with Brie.
