Joe Pizza Restaurant Review: Strike up a conversation with the regulars queued up at Joe Pizza and you may be surprised to discover how many of them aren't here for the namesake item---although the New Haven-style brick-oven pies are reliably tasty. They range from the simple pepperoni, which has an extra spicy kick, to the Pizza alla Carbonara pie, smothered with sausage, prosciutto and caramelized onions as well as mozzarella and fresh-grated Parmesan. Still, once some kind stranger fills you in on the eggplant fries---crisp, hot wedges sprinkled with grated Romano and served with marinara for dipping---you'll be hard-put to resist. And when you see that the enormous burgers are just $4.95, your pizza craving may suddenly dissipate. So go ahead and order one---we're partial to the Joe Burger, a half-pounder topped with bacon and a fried egg. Just don't wait too long before you return to Joe Pizza for...pizza. |
