Johannes Restaurant Review: Johannes is located in an unassuming storefront along Indian Canyon Drive, a bit off the beaten Palm Canyon Drive path. Under the toque is Austrian-born and namesake chef Johannes Bacher, whose cuisine is served in a minimalist yet elegant room. A selection of inventive dishes speak to the chef's heritage, including cheese spätzle and signature wienerschnitzel with a lemon-cranberry jelly (get an apple strudel martini to put yourself in the mood). Escargots are simple and satisfying, too, even if it's a dish closely associated with the French. Grass-fed meats include a New Zealand rack of lamb and a venison loin also from Down Under. Bacher’s subtle, creative fish preparations are exciting as well. Imported beers, saké and an extensive wine list, with both European and American labels, round out the cosmopolitan experience.
