THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kalei-Tei Restaurant Review:
We love this small, artistic, almost Zen-like room with its bright skylight. The menu is minimalist, too. All Japanese curry, all the time. We are fans of the kinoko curry, which features mushrooms, porcini, shiitake and truffles. But you can also have beef, chicken, seafood and tropical fruit curries, either on noodles or rice. (Rice, we suggest.) The misnamed coffee jelly with ice cream is a far better dessert than it sounds, since the Japanese have raised gelatin, even coffee-flavored gelatin, to an art form. A bargain.
