This blink-and-you’ll-miss-it restaurant may not look like much from outside, but take a seat at the sushi bar and taste the fresh, expertly made sushi, sashimi and sushi rolls, and you’ll wonder why you haven’t been here sooner. Don’t let the combo of Thai and Japanese make you think neither excels, as both do. Whether you order sushi or one of the Thai specialties, start your meal with the yellowtail jalapeño---paper-thin slices of fresh hamachi, topped with slivers of jalapeño, subtly tangy yuzu (citrus) dressing and bits of crunchy sea salt. It’s the best taste on the sushi menu. Rolls include snazzy versions, such as the American dream, with conch, shrimp tempura and avocado; and a lobster tempura roll with spicy mustard. Thai curry dishes, fried rice and noodle stir-fries (including authentic pad thai) comprise the other half of the menu; the crispy duck with fresh ginger is a winner, as is the seafood clay pot with chili-basil sauce. Wash it all down with a crisp Kirin beer or a glass (or bottle) of saké from a sizeable list. Need a little something sweet at the end of the meal? Try the banana-walnut spring rolls, crisp and sweet, or a bowl of tropical fruit.
