 Kenichi has remained noteworthy for many years despite all the competition in Austin for contemporary Japanese cuisine. Could it be the sleek Asian interior or the stylish crowd that keeps things hip? Certainly, it is all of the above, but mostly it's about the food. With that in mind, arrive early or reserve, because the restaurant fills up fast. As an alternative to the sultry-lit, black marble-trimmed dining room, opt to sit at the bustling sushi bar and watch the chefs create artistic sushi, or snag one of the sought after booths in the main dining room. Kenichi's fresh yellowfin tuna sushi is a mouth melting catch---we dare you to resist more than one piece. The Aspen roll lays it on rich and thick with smoked trout, cream cheese, scallions, cucumbers and masago aïoli. Innovative Pan Asian entrées include roasted bamboo-wrapped salmon or Kurobuta pork belly in sriracha-barbecue sauce with spritely pickled cabbage. Expect a staggering saké selection and nice wines by the glass. Ginger crème brûlée is a decadent finish.
