Kula Ranch Island Steakhouse Restaurant Review: Kula Ranch Island Steakhouse's outdoor seating area --- complete with heat lamps, couches, fire pits and sweeping ocean views just beyond massive sand dunes --- is a nice spot to watch the sunset. Sunset dinner specials Monday through Friday from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. sweeten the deal. The tropical-inspired grub and tiki décor fit nicely with the locale. Service is friendly but noticeably slow, even when ordering a cocktail like the signature Mahalo margarita or Maui mojito. As far as entrées, it’s hard to go wrong with the tender braised short ribs (prepared with saké, orange juice and soy sauce) or the festive macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi served over a grilled sticky rice medallion, paired with house-made Thai coconut cream sauce. But the true standouts are the refreshing blue cheese-laden North Shore iceberg wedge and the surprisingly dynamite Hawaiian nachos: a complex construction of won ton shells covered with a heaping of cheddar and jack cheeses, chicken and sweet peanut sauce. Kula also serves more than 20 sushi rolls including a concoction of Spam, cream cheese and avocado dubbed the Hawaiian Power Bar. |
