La Lanterna Ristorante & Caffe Restaurant Review: Earth tones, wrought iron wall sconces and framed Italian posters inform the setting, while a spacious, breezy area for al fresco dining in the summer season adds to the element of romance. However, the restaurant’s most appealing aspect resides in its creative cuisine: standard Italian with unique twists and the addition of Swiss influences. Pizzas include the fra diavolo with rock shrimp, black olives, hot cherry peppers, mozzarella and tomato sauce. Or go for a pasta: ravioli stuffed with buffalo mozzarella and ricotta infused with truffles, finished with pulled roasted chicken and portobello mushrooms. To fully appreciate the marriage of northern with southern European flavors, try the thinly sliced veal scaloppine cooked with shallots and mushrooms in a Sauvignon Blanc and demi-cream sauce accompanied by Swiss-rosti potato pancakes; and chicken “scarpariello” served on or off the bone as desired, with vinegar peppers, sweet fennel sausage and cremini mushrooms.
