la Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe Restaurant Review: As restaurant chains go, la Madeleine is one of the finer and more consistent. Marketed as a traditional French country café, it offers breads, pastries, quiches and desserts good enough to satisfy even tough European critics. Favorites are the tossed Caesar salad, the best around for the price. Try the creamy tomato-basil soup with lots of butter and cream; the puff pastry spinach pochettes; and, for dessert, strawberries Romanoff with brandy-flavored cream sauce. Also noteworthy is rosemary rotisserie chicken. The pseudo-French décor is cheerful though très cliché. Other locations. |
