La Paz Restaurant Review: Designed to suggest a chapel, this location of La Paz (the only one left in the Atlanta area) is located in an old church. There's a comfortable sitting area with plush leather sofas off of the bar, and a long porch with screened windows provides sheltered but breezy seating. Start with a chile con queso, melted white cheese with onions, tomatoes, chilies and spices. A basket of various chips, including blue corn, accompanies a pair of salsas. The standout among them is the very picante, rough-textured salsa verde. Vegetarians will find a fair section of pleasing dishes, and beans and rice also compose a vegetarian option. Soups are first-rate, especially the sopa de tortilla. Fish and chicken dishes are top of the mark; we recommend the chimichanga filled with grilled chicken and topped with queso fundido, a bit adapted to American tastes but still worthy. SangrĂa is house-made, but too sweet and insipid. |
