La Sirenita Restaurant Review: There's nothing fancy at La Sirenita (“The Little Mermaid”) and nothing wallet-busting, either. This longtime Alberta Street favorite is one of the few sit-down places in town where you can fill up for less than $5. The authentic taqueria is a meat-eater's haven with traditional taco fillings of cabeza and lengua as well as less adventurous goat, spicy sausage or steak picado. Tamales are properly encased in corn husks and robustly flavored, while the gargantuan burritos are among the most popular in town. The atmosphere is friendly for families and hipsters alike. The only drawback is that there are no margaritas to pair with the spicy fare, although kids like the sticky-sweet Jarritos sodas. Don't like Mexican food? They serve burgers and fries, too. Also located in southeast Portland's Sellwood neighborhood. |
