Laurel Hardware Restaurant Review

: A chic combination of white tile-walls, a glass garage-door façade, and an exposed kitchen contribute to the design of this hot-spot, while the trendy menu is comprised of shareable plates and gourmet bar food, the in-fashion modes of dining in L.A. Laurel Hardware is constantly packed, and almost infuriatingly loud. The menu still seems a work in progress, with hits and misses alike. To start, there are snacks such as salty homemade corn nuts and even saltier chicharrones, or fried pork skin, which you can dip in bourbon-maple sauce or creamy lebni cheese. Small plates include a zingy salad of arugula, pear and pickled sunchokes in slightly spicy thyme vinaigrette. Standout dishes from the section marked "others" include intriguing braised lamb cheeks that are gamey and rich, mixed with quinoa for texture, pickled beets that contribute acid, and a poached egg with a runny yolk that adds a nice creaminess. The burger is respectable, though the bun crumbles from being too soggy. Mostly international, food-friendly labels inhabit the wine list, though the exotic cocktails are the real draw.
