| Paris-born Rémy Kerba gave up on his little bistro spot and leapt at the chance to run the dining operation at a famous local university's campus inn. A Frenchman doing breakfast? Oh, yeah. For lunch, savor the homemade country-style pâté or salade Niçoise, along with American tastes such as sautéed rainbow trout or crab-and-corn cakes. At night, French fare rules, the wines are good but inexpensive, and a guitarist on the weekends intones the easy listening classics that lift the atmosphere to the romantic. The braised lamb shank yields a whopper of a portion, with plenty of tender, well-braised meat to take home for leftovers. Vegetables are always fresh. This kitchen doesn't take much license with the classics, so when you're hungry for the right kind of home-style French food that you savored in Paris, this is the right place to find it. |
