| The suburbs of Philadelphia have been waiting for this---a re-creation of a farmhouse in Provence---all sun-drenched fabrics and wooden furniture, tiled floors and beamed ceilings and flowers everywhere. Jason Shillinglaw, executive chef, does this light, ingredient-driven cuisine with panache and an American touch. The fish soup with all the accoutrements, parsnip velouté with a poached egg, tartares and carpaccios, and braised lamb shank are excellent, as is the cassoulet, but all dishes are true to their roots. With Americanization have come lower prices and a more casual air. The wine list has many choices from the south of France as well, but the BYOB Sundays are very popular. In fine weather, the flowery terrace is the place to be. On Friday evenings, the happy hour serves up excellent hors d'oeuvres and you can order from the relaxed bar menu by the fireplace, or eat from the regular menu. George's cheesesteak is a star attraction. |
