Les Terrasses de Lyon Restaurant Review

: When Davy Tissot took over from Stéphane Gaborieau here, he had some big shoes to fill. He has more than risen to the occasion. This splendid former convent perched on the Fourvière hill offers breathtaking views of Lyon from its terraces and gardens, and the welcome and service are exceedingly professional.

Food very good but will never come back.

The food was definitely deserving of a 16 on the Gayot scale, but the wine list was both inferior and insulting. If you enjoy fine wine as much as you do fine food, this is a restaurant you should skip. How does a restaurant this close to the Rhone valley have such a horrible selection of Rhone? The average age of the white Rhones on the list exceeded the reds. There was only one rouge Rhone older than 2008 on the Rhone list - a 2001 $50 (90 point) Cote du Rhone that was on the list for 200 Euros! Financial injury to add to the insult of a cheap and barely drinkable wine. The Bordeaux selection was also horribly weak with only the 1996 Mouton being of real quality, but at 1250 Euros it was already 300% of current auction prices and overpriced. The wine steward/som should be terminated immediately for coming up with this mess of list. Having already been to other restaurants in town and seen their "gastronomic" wine list, I must say that this restaurant is a restaurant to avoid. There is so much good food in Lyon, why suffer the insult and injury of an absurdly bad wine list. Even U.S. restaurants of comparable Gayot ratings have better choices for French reds. We are coming back to Lyon next year but definitely not to this restaurant. Too bad. We enjoyed staying at Villa Florentine.
