| Longtime devotees of Latin food join the newly converted to pack this renovated spot, requiring reservations be made on most nights. Sit down and order some sangría: it may take some time to peruse the menu. To start, we recommend the platter piled high with ceviche of halibut, mussels and calamari and topped with pozole and crispy corn nuts, or the flaky empanadas stuffed with a tender mix of beef, eggs and raisins. A tamal criollo promises and delivers a torpedo of masa spiked with chili and plumped with pork and olives. Entrées fly more of an American flag with dishes such as a meaty cut of pork chop leaning leisurely against cabbage braised with mushrooms and bacon. Chicken breast is paired with truffled mac ‘n’ cheese and a homey beef dish comes with sautéed tomato and onion. For dessert, try the chocolate mousse. |
