LloydMartin Restaurant Review

: Low key and unpretentious, LloydMartin's simple but inviting space features dark wood and romantic lighting. It is fine dining masquerading as a bistro. Chef-owner Sam Crannell, who named the restaurant after his grandfathers, offers a brief but tantalizing selection of inspired “small plates” that change every day. Begin with a dish of albacore crudo lightly dusted with vanilla salt, or foie gras mousse served with elegant accompaniments of Bourbon gelée and huckleberries. Poured from a small pitcher, velvety red kuri squash soup surrounds a plump cayenne-spiced marshmallow, making this dish as appealing as dessert. Frisée salad is crowned with a soft-boiled egg that melts into bits of bacon and is tossed with a Champagne-shallot vinaigrette. Of the entrées, we suggest the earthy venison Bolognese and the house-made gnocchi with rabbit ragù. Save room for the giant malted waffle topped with maple ice cream and strange-but-it-works bacon. The wine list features an interesting albeit pricey (average $50) selection of local and global wines. Service is smooth and friendly.
