The Lodge at Koele Dining Room Restaurant Review: Surrounded by thousands of miles of ocean, the Hawaiian Islands offer both a literal and figural opportunity to “get away from it all,” and that sense of seclusion is especially palpable at Four Seasons Resort Lana'i, The Lodge at Koele. Located 1,600 feet above sea level in Lanai's central highlands, the property can be completely transformed by the ever-changing climate. There may be rolling fog one moment then sunshine the next. Here in this atmospheric place you’ll find an unexpected romantic retreat in the form of The Lodge at Koele Dining Room. For added romance, request a table by the wood-burning fireplace or one of the windows overlooking the expansive green grounds. Executive chef Eren Guryel presents a four-course tasting menu ($110) under the headings of Earth, Sky, Ocean and Land, as well as à la carte offerings. A locally grown touch is evident in starters such as Hamakua mushroom strudel with mascarpone cheese, candied red onion and crisp pancetta, and Kona crab and Cognac bisque with Kauai shrimp and Kona crab cake. Among larger plates are seafood selections like Hawaiian snapper with forbidden black rice, poached fennel and caviar sauce. Molokai venison loin is seared tableside on a volcanic rock, and as you admire the presentation you may just spot one of the beast’s luckier brethren passing by outside the window. End the meal with the signature soufflé. Adding to the experience is a global selection of wines at a variety of price points.
