Lulu California Bistro Restaurant Review: Rarely without a crowd, even when the mercury rises into the triple digits, LuLu's California Bistro resonates with residents. Its stark white façade, lofty terraced dining room, bursts of candy-color embellishments, and a lengthy menu add to the verve. A large sidewalk patio offers plenty of additional seating, too. The menu can be hit or miss, but chef Arturo Casillas makes it fun and flavorful, with generous portions. There is an assortment of appetizers, salads, panini, seafood, steak and pasta. Favorites include the New England lobster rolls, a trio of sandwiches filled with tender lobster meat, house-made mayonnaise, celery, chives and diced tomatoes. The wine list is thoughtful, and features many California labels like Rodney Strong and La Crema, as well as some notable European selections. There's also a long list of imported bottled beers and craft brews on tap. What this well-heeled crowd really seems to enjoy are the colorful shaken and stirred cocktails, which flow all day long.
