Reminiscent of a restaurant in New York City's pre-war "Little Italy," Maggiano's is a blast from the past. The large and varied menu of classic southern Italian fare specializes in lavish portions of old-world recipes. Reigning supreme are homemade pastas, the house special being lasagna made with meat or marinara sauce. Other options include eggplant mostaccioli, rigatoni with chicken and Marsala sauce, and linguine with red or white clam sauce. For a real treat, however, ask for Joey Z's zesty pomodoro sauce, which can be substituted for any sauce from the pasta menu. Prime steaks, fresh fish and Provimi veal are also specials, but expect to pay for them. The New York steak al forno with Gorgonzola is an extravagant dish. Seafood choices range from salmon or shrimp oreganata to a lemon-herb swordfish. Portions are so large we advise splitting salads and desserts, at the very least.
