Centreville’s Manna Bistro & Bakery not only satisfies Ethiopian food cravings, it also offers pastries, assorted baked goods, breakfast tacos and other Latin fare, and steaming hot cappuccino. But of course, the stars of the menu are the traditional Ethiopian dishes. To enjoy the cuisine, plan to relax at one of the tables and ask the staff for suggestions. Or you can simply scan the menu and start off with an order or two of the sambussa, a flaky-puffy cooked dough filled with lentils and other veggies. Main course musts include the classic chicken doro watt: chicken in a spicy sauce served with Ethiopian injera, the spongy flatbread. Other options include the red lentils and the braised collard greens prepared with onions and garlic. Another meat-based selection is the lamb tibbs, a platter of cubed lamb marinated in a special sauce. With each plate, ask for more injera to scoop up meat, vegetables and sauce. Desserts? Go Western with fresh chocolate chip cookies.
