Market Salamander Restaurant Review: Middleburg is home to one of the area’s truly unique destinations: the food and wine shop, Market Salamander, the brainchild of Sheila Johnson that sees chef Todd Gray of DC’s Equinox overseeing its menu. It’s easy to see why the hurried and harried might drop in for carry-out offerings, but the setting calls for patrons to sit down and enjoy a casual meal---everything from a daily special of pozole to a spectacular crab cake, pulled pork, and rare London broil. Indeed, its Market mac ‘n’ cheese is the real deal; it is so good that it recalls the days when moms made this comfort food at home from scratch. There’s plenty among the sandwich category, and if you have a sweet tooth, be sure to pick up one of the pastries. Of course, oenophiles should take the time to visit the market’s extensive wine selection upstairs. Tea- and wine-tasting events and cooking classes on the premises are also a part of the mix.
