| Marquee is the beautifully designed restaurant nestled next to the Village Theater, at tony shopping center Highland Park Village. Both the theater and the restaurant received a handsome and tasteful renovation by entrepreneur Brian Twomey in which little expense was spared; the glass-walled patio on the second level, overlooking the entire shopping center, is especially grand. Done in a retro-modern style with warm wood panels and eye-catching geometric fabrics, the restaurant feels chic yet casual; take note of the original balcony, left intact, in a well over the stairway. On the ground level is an open kitchen, presided over by self-taught chef Tre Wilcox, who developed a following after his appearance as a contestant on Bravo's Top Chef. His Southwestern- and Asian-inspired menu feels similar to the menu from Abacus, where he learned his chops. Popular dishes include shrimp and grits, risotto with lobster, and chicken thighs with a cinnamony spice mix that's a nice twist; points for using thighs instead of a generic breast. Creative cocktails are devised by mixologist Jason Kosmas, and the dessert menu includes a clever movie-themed chocolate tart topped with salty, homemade caramel popcorn. |
