| The Massa family, shucking oysters for generations, added a Cordon Bleu chef to their entourage when planning this upscale grill. The oyster is still revered, and Creole traditions are respected in sauces smoother and sweeter than a first kiss and just as memorable. The white-coated waitstaff, crusty French bread and Vieux Carré ambience delight. Along with a perfect crayfish etouffée glistening with golden beads of broth, and a gumbo made with a good dark roux, the kitchen also surprisingly turns out twenty-first-century fusion cuisine. Asian influence is evident in a spunky tuna steak served with wasabi and a ginger-soy glaze. In a nod to the Mediterranean, salmon comes with olives, feta, onions and a stout balsamic glaze. Mango barbecued shrimp is accompanied by Swiss chard, sweet potatoes and mango relish. Though the ambience is old guard, the prices suit those who don't have a family fortune to squander, and the menu may catch you off guard. |
