| With a menu that changes daily, you know the seafood is fresh at McCormick & Schmick’s. The restaurant’s polished wood furnishings and brass fittings are spiffy, but the more than 30 varieties of fresh fish and seafood flown in from U.S. and international waters are what make the place a real catch. The experience can come off as a geography lesson since the menu lists where seafood comes from, like bay scallops from New Bedford, Mass., yellowfin tuna from Panama City, Fla., and mahi mahi from Hilo, Hawaii. One thing is for sure: oyster lovers will be in heaven; on the half shell are choices such as Island Gold, Kumamoto and Blue Point. Note how the waitstaff takes your order---the old-fashioned way, by memory. Cocktails also are handcrafted in a time-honored method, using fresh-squeezed juices and no blenders. Among entrées, signature dishes include grilled sea scallops on a bed of tomato basil risotto and spinach with whole grain mustard butter. If you’re in the mood for beef, the filet mignon is tender and tasty, and the meatloaf with portobello gravy and mashed potatoes is comforting. For dessert, the upside-down apple pie is paired with a local favorite---Graeter's vanilla ice cream. |
