Although the restaurant projects itself as “casual,” the ambience suggests something much more refined and European. Taking a hint from the owner’s perspective, the goal is to feature a place with Portuguese and Spanish overtones both in décor and in the dishes. So it all makes sense, the space is outfitted with dark woods and the menu has such choices as the Portuguese soup called caldo verde and assorted tapas, all of which lead you to entrées like paella, lemon basil chicken pasta, and a mariscada of shrimp, lobster and clams in a rich tomato-brandy sauce. Strictly Portuguese options include grilled sardines, grilled quail and bacalao, or grilled salted cod. The house-made desserts come presented on a serving tray. At the end of the meal, you may not feel entirely like Christopher Columbus, but you will certainly feel you have eaten good European food.
