Copeland's Famous New Orleans Bar & Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Big Easy expatriates can find a taste of home at Copeland's. Fried seafood platters come piled high, blackened dishes are five-alarm hot and the gumbo is thick, rich and full of seafood. Do order a side of Red-Hots --- small red potatoes boiled in spicy crab boil and buttered --- or the classic, slow-cooked red beans and rice with andouille. Recipes like shrimp etouffée and panéed veal harken back to the original Copeland's New Orleans restaurant --- a higher-end outing from the founder of Popeye's Fried Chicken. Dishes have always been more homey than haute, and the chain has hordes of fans across the country. That said, service at the Jacksonville franchise is somewhat uneven. Given that it's always bustling, a bad service day can leave a lot of patrons grumbling. However, as New Orleans-style cooking goes, this place still does it better than other Louisiana-themed restaurants in town. Oh, and if you have kids, order the Mile-and-a-Half-High Pie, an ice cream concoction that recalls the old Pontchartrain Hotel. One order, several spoons, will do the trick. A Sunday Jazz brunch buffet has legion fans in the area.
