Crescent City Steak House Restaurant Review:

Nothing much ever changes at Crescent City Steak House, and that’s just the way its regular customers like it. In a town that loves its history (and often embellishes it), Crescent City Steak House was founded in 1934 and claims bragging rights as the birthplace of the New Orleans-style steak, featuring charbroiled Prime beef served in sizzling, seasoned butter. The utterly basic menu presents rib-eye, New York strip or porterhouse steaks as the kitchen's specialty. Skip the soggy, flavorless shrimp cocktail, but jump on the hand-cut fries. Enjoy the “Z Pie” for dessert --- chocolate cookie crust with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. The mostly new-world wine list offers a plethora of reds for the steaks, as well as a few sparkling wines and dessert choices. The main dining room breathes a nostalgic ambience, and the curtained “cheaters” booths remain the best seats in the house for those on a discreet rendezvous. Crescent City Steak House is not terribly convenient to the French Quarter or downtown, but it is worth the drive.
